Families are very diverse in their needs and preferences. This is why policymakers ought to focus on finding ways to return resources and decision-making power to parents, who know their children’s needs better than anyone. Policies should also give parents new and better paid leave and child care options, without imposing new entitlements, so that they have an abundance of options to choose from and can make decisions that make sense for them and their children.
