INDEPENDENT WOMEN'S FORUM STATEMENT

Another Devastating and Deathly Veterans Affairs Report Proves Vets Should Be Free To Choose Own Care

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Independent Women’s Forum (IWF), the leading women's organization focused on improving economic prospects without growing government, released the following statement following a new report finding 200 veterans died waiting for care at the Phoenix Veterans Affairs (VA) hospital. IWF recently released a policy paper on why the VA continues to fail our veterans and what steps should be taken for true reform.

Hadley Heath Manning, director of health policy at IWF said:

"This is no one-time blunder, but the just the latest in a series of investigations that reveal tragic and devastating mismanagement within the VA system.

"Given this pattern, it's clear the problems are systemic, and structural reforms are needed. Our veterans deserve much better. It's completely backwards that some of our most esteemed citizens, our veterans, are suffering in our most restrictive, most government-controlled VA health system. Vets should be free to see the doctors and visit the hospitals of their choice, so they are not left to languish, and sometimes even die, waiting for care at the VA."
