I had to get STD testing a couple of years back and was not told how much everything would cost beforehand. After, I received a letter in the mail telling me I owed $2,000! I never reached back out to them.
My boyfriend also had an emergency: a kidney stone. No information was shared with him or me. Later on, we got a letter in the mail saying he owes $4,000. These two occurrences were under the same hospital. We also did not reach back out to them that time either.
